History of Chi Zeta
Regional Director E. Juanita Tate organized the
chapter, December 12, 1936, in the home of Soror
A. E. Moore.  The charter members were Soror
Henrietta Beasley-Wright, Lola B. Greer, Mattye
Shannon Jeltz, Annie Elese Moore, and Clara
Johnson McFall.

In that the National Sorority has for its objective
the idea of service, scholarship, and sisterhood
and for its ideals, Finer Womanhood, it was the
hope of these women that the high ideals for
which Zeta stands would bring together women
of this city and adjoining cities who have similar
desires and aspirations.

Twelve Basili have given their unique leadership
to the continuous and steady growth of the
chapter.  Serving in the order that is listed: Sorors
Henrietta Beasley Wright, Lola B. Greer, Clara V.
McFall, Lelia Lovejoy, Annie E. Moroe, Opaline
Wadkins, Louise Reed, Grace Palmore, Clara
Luper, Lelia Lovejoy (second term), Vivian
Lawrence, Sylvia Lewis, Shirley Darrell, Ora
Moten, and currently Thais Goodwin.

Chi Zeta has given loyal support to and observed
the outstanding national movements of the
organization: Finer Womanhood Week, The
Housing Project, The Prevention and Control of
Juvenile Delinquency, La Cherrio, Recreational
Project, National Council of Human Rights,
National Council of Negro Women, and the Pan
Hellenic Council.

Locally, Chi Zeta gives support to the NAACP,
Urban League, YWCA, Chamber of Commerce,
United Negro College Fund, and other worthy
projects..  .  .  .  .
